A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was devoted to helping others as a volunteer at Douglas Community Hospital until it's closure. She was a long time member of St. George's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Rogers; her son, Brad Easterly, his wife, Julie, and son, Justin; Lynda's daughter, Dr. Kristine Merrill, her husband, Troy, and their daughter, Madelyn; also Rita's son, Doug Connine, his wife, Shar, and their daughter, Mariah; as well as numerous other close relatives and friends. She will be cremated. There will be no funeral or memorial services as per her wishes.

    A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 1999, in St. Charles Catholic Church for Raymond James Currier, who died July 5 at age 87.
    Mr. Currier was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Washburn, Wis. He had lived in Portland since 1942. He was a tire division manager for Montgomery Ward & Co. and later for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for many years, retiring in 1975. He was a longtime member of the church. He married Doreen Stephens in 1934.
    Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carol Blatner of West Linn and Raylene Goodwin of Clackamas; sons, James of Portland and Michael of Beaverton; brothers, Tom of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Louis of Whittier, Calif; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His son, Dr. John, died in 1977.
    Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lake Oswego. The family suggests remembrances to the Boy Scouts of America or the Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Arrangements are by Zeller Chapel of the Roses.

William Everett Mettler

    A memorial service for William Everett ''Dutch'' Mettler of Southeast Portland will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Wilhelm Funeral Home.
    Mr. Mettler died of cancer Thursday in a Portland hospital. He was 71.
    He was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Laramie, Wyo., where he grew up. He attended Laramie College and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
    He moved from Seattle to Portland in 1958 and worked as manager of Powell Lanes, a bowling center, until 1972. He became a pioneer in local televised bowling when he had ''Portland Bowls'' broadcast from the Powell Lanes on Channel 12 for three 13-week seasons.
    Mr. Mettler was a member of the Journal All-Star Traveling League and won many bowling titles. When he was 69, he bowled the highest game of his career, scoring 298 in the Portland Elks League in May 1991.
    He later was an agent for the Prudential Insurance Co. He retired in 1992.
    In addition to his wife, Kitty, survivors include his daughter, Margaret Starnes of Pleasanton, Calif; his stepson, Gary of Portland; and two grandchildren.
    Disposition was by cremation.
    The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the American Cancer Society -- Oregon Division.
