    A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, in Young's Funeral Home for Serena M. Battell, who died Feb. 8 at age 89.
    Mrs. Battell was born Nov. 16, 1907, in Garfield, Wash., and educated in Latah, Wash. Her maiden name was Gillam. In 1923, she married Ivan Teko, who died in 1982. She was a member of West Hills Christian Church.
    Surviving are her sisters, Martha Kieper of Portland and Thelma Thompson of King City; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
    Interment will be in Crescent Grove Cemetery. Remembrances are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

    She was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Spokane to Francis and Etta Gilliam Ware. She married Lloyd Meyer on Nov. 30, 1931, in Vancouver, Wash. He died Jan. 23, 1999.
    Meyer was a homemaker, bookkeeper and co-pilot.
    Survivors include two grandchil dren, Jeffery Hite and Teresa Ward, both of Eugene; Her daughter, Sharon, died previously.

She married Ernie Crain in April 1946 in Portland. He died in January 2000. Crain served in the Women's Army Corps in Europe from 1943 to 1945. She was a homemaker.

    Graveside service for Harland "H.D." Gilliam, former Pullman Police Chief, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney is in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Gilliam, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday. He was 75.
    He served in the Navy during World War II and then entered law enforcement in Pullman.
    In 1949 he married Beatrice Caine in Pullman.
    Mr. Gilliam retired as the Pullman Police Chief in 1973. His family then moved to Cheney.
    Survivors include his wife; two sons, Doug Gilliam of Spokane and Craig Gilliam of Cheney; a daughter, Lynn Thompson of Cheney; and a grandson.
