  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Teague Motor Company founder dies at age 86
Wilker (Bill) Teague died Saturday at his home at the age of 86. He was the founder of the Teague Motor Company.
"He loved this community and he worked very hard to make this a better place," his daughter, Elaine Brownell said. "He tried to give back to it what it had given to him. He always felt that he owed the community that.
Teague and his wife, Marjorie, moved to Walla Walla in 1938 and bought a Ford dealership from Virgil Valser. He dedicated his life and his energy to building up the business. It has remained at the same site since its inception.
"in the early years, he was everywhere at once," Brownell said. "He worked constantly, even nights and weekends, but he always seemed to find time to play golf. He was a great golfer, even though he had a lousy swing."
In addition to his own business, he was involved in establishing the Jackson Motors Company (now Abajian Motor Sales) with Harold Jackson, and the Carroll Adams Tractor Company with Carroll Adams.
It seemed at times Teague was involved in everything and was president of nearly every organization, Brownell said. He did everything from organizing USO activities during World War II, to serving as the president of the Walla Walla Chamber of Commerce.
In 1968, Teague's son-in-law, John Brownell, and Bob Stevens bought the business. The company retained Teague's name in his honor. Teague retired in 1978.
He was an avid horseman, and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to ride. Active in the Wagon Wheelers, in his later years he carried the flag for the organization. He also enjoyed fly fishing, and was an adept bridge player.
"We feel a bit numb now," Brownell said. "But we've been getting such wonderful feedback from all his friends."
