    Doris met Boyd while he was enlisted in the Navy and came to Oregon for a visit with his shipmate, Doris' brother. Doris and Boyd married in Salem in 1959. Shortly afterwards Doris finished her college degree at Oregon College of Education and then began her career as an elementary teacher for the Salem-Keizer School District. During her 39 year career, Doris taught at Swegle, Hazel Green, Auburn, Mary Eyre and Hayesville elementary schools. Doris loved teaching and being able to work with all children. She was well loved by her former students, seldom could she go anywhere without being stopped by a student that she impacted.

    During her much deserved retirement, Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, walking and shopping, and spending time with her three granddaughters. Doris was a world traveler, having enjoyed sightseeing and teaching trips to Europe, Korea, China, Africa, and various parts of the North America. Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years, Boyd, her daughter, Amanda, her granddaughters, Bethany (Nate), Katie, and Lexie, and great-granddaughters, Evee and Aubrey. In addition, she is survived by her siblings Jim Pfau, Glenn Pfau, Mary Priem, Carole John, and Joyce Schultz. Doris was loved by not only her family, but also those who had the privilege of being a part of her life. Her love for God, family and her zest for life will be greatly missed. Those who were touched by Doris's life are invited to join her family in a Celebration of Life on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2:00 pm at People's Church at 4500 Lancaster Dr. NE, in Salem. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be sent in Doris's honor to the Sakila Sponsorship Program that was near and dear to her heart.     A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, in Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home in Salem for Floyd Willis Steward, who died May 23 at age 96.
    Mr. Steward was born April 10, 1903, in Devils Lake, N.D., and was raised in Texas and Salem. He graduated from Capitol Business College. He was a retail store manager for Thomas Kay Woolen Mills and owned and operated department stores in Salem, West Salem and Forest Grove. He also farmed in Hillsboro and Banks and was a foreman for Diamond Lumber Co., a custodian for St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and School and for Cascade College, and a warehouse supervisor for Norcrest China and Made in Oregon until he retired in 1990 at age 87. He was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance churches in Salem and Portland and of Oregon City Bible Chapel. In 1929, he married Theresa Pfau; she died in 1955. In 1959, he married Olzetta Cobb.
    Survivors include his wife; sons, Ray of Maple Valley, Wash., and Richard of Aloha; daughters, Eleanor Stockton of Yreka, Calif., Marjorie Tussing of Elko, Nev., Loretta Shook of Rocky Point, Geneva Ijima of Oregon City, Barbara Karstens of Sisters and Joan Austin of Hillsboro; 37 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
    Interment will be in Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem. The family suggests remembrances to Oregon City Bible Chapel.

    He was born in Devils Lake, N.D., and owned and operated department stores in Salem, West Salem and Forest Grove. He was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Gideon's International, Christian Businessmen, Christian Home League, Oregon National Guard and enjoyed gardening.
