    SILVERTON - Born of Norwegian parents in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Bertha was the oldest of two girls raised on a farm. In 1938 her family moved to Silverton, Oregon. Born with a keen mind, she excelled in school. She was a natural musician. While still young, she and her sister started singing duets while playing guitar, sharing their talents over the radio in Salem several times. Bertha attended Nyack College in New York. She also worked several years in Sacramento, Calif. as a manager for the Telephone Co. and prior to marriage worked for the State of Oregon as a Tax Consultant. Bertha became the beloved wife of Reuben Ditchen on February 14, 1947. Bertha committed her life to the Lord at an early age and never stopped trusting him and praying.
    
    Survivors include her husband, Reuben Ditchen of Silverton; daughter, Linda Harger of Albany, sons, Robert Ditchen of Salem and Gregg Ditchen of Silverton; sister, Ruth Mayo of Van, Texas; and 6 grandchildren.
    
    Contributions may be sent to Salem Christian and Missionary Alliance, Missions or to the Church.
    
    Visitation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tues., Feb. 3, 2004 at Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton. Services at 11 a.m., Wed., Feb. 4, 2004, at Salem Christian and Missionary Alliance, Salem. Interment following funeral at Bethany Pioneer Cemetery, Silverton.
