  • Obituary: An obituary appeared in the SALEM - Joseph Tomminger, 80, died last Saturday of a long-standing heart condition. He was born in Woodburn, Oregon and lived on a farm outside Monitor until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving on the USS Bataan for four years. He worked at Signal Depot in Sacramento, Calif. for six years then returned to Oregon where he worked for the State Forestry Department for 27 years, retiring in 1990, spending the remaining years in the Salem/Keizer area enjoying gardening and Ham Radio activities (K7NLM). He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean; children, Christine Primrose, Mary Ellyn Gilbert, Jeanne (Rick) Schaecher, and Steve all of Salem area, and Les (Helen) of Washington. He had 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 24 at Restlawn Funeral Home, 201 Oak Grove Rd. NW., Salem.
