He came to Michigan with his parents when a child and resided in Libson. He was united in marriage to Donna Diana Sealey July 4th, 1876. To this union were born three children--Bertie, who passed away in infancy, and Mrs. Sarah Lucinda Brown who passed away three years ago, February 8, 1927. He lived in the vicinity for more than fifty years, operating his farm until about a year ago. He had seen the growth of Sparta from the time it was a very small village up until its present growth. His wife passed away February 7th, 1921, since which he has been very lonely because of the fact that his home had been broken. He lived alone a short time until November 16, 1927, when he took his residence with his daughter where he has lived up until the time of his death. The greatest glory that came unto his life was when he felt that he should prepare himself for the future beyond this life and fully realized and accepted the faith that meant all to him. Dying with the assurance of reaching a better world. He leaves to mourn his loss one daughter, three sisters, (Ora Hanson of Sparta, Martha Atherton of Buchanan, and Ida Atherton), two brothers, (Charles Chester of Racine, Wisconsin, and Win of East Tarias), nine grandchildren, and other relatives. Bev was a member of the Muskegon Vikings Lodge, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading and watching bull-riding. According to her wish’s cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the Vikings Lodge, 3132 Lakeshore Drive, in Muskegon on Sunday, March 30, 2019 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Interment will be next to her husband, daughter and son in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Vikings Scholarship Fund or Harbor Hospice Foundation. after 14 March 2019 Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan.
