     Marshall Bassett, 94, former county resident, died in Kokomo nursing home Friday at 1:15 p.m. Death was attributed to complications.
     Born in Shelby County Sept. 1, 1858, he was the son of Oliver and Elizabeth (Monroney) Bassett. He was united in marriage in 1880 with Nora Israel, who preceded him in death several years ago.
     Three sons were born to the union, two of whom survive, W.O. Bassett of Pheonix, Ariz., and Earnest of Kokomo. Rev. Herbert D. Bassett died in 1943. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great - great grandchildren.
     Mr. Bassett had lived in the county his entire life until moving to Kokomo about 15 years ago. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Waldron Methodist Church.
     Funeral services will be held at the Ewing Mortuary Monday at 10:30 a.m. with burial in Little Marion cemetery. After 2:00 p.m. Sunday friends may call at the mortuary.

     Marshall Bassett

     Marshall Bassett, 94, who made his home with his son, Ernest Bassett, 1442 Home Ave., died at 1:15 p.m. Friday after an illness of only a few days. Had he lived until Sept. 1 he would have been 95.
     Mr. Bassett was a native of Shelby County where most of his life was spent. He was married Jan. 8, 1880 to Nora Israel. She died 21 years ago and a few years later he came to this city to make his home.
     Besides the son with whom he lived there is another son, W.O. Bassett of Pheoniz, Arizona. A third son, the Rev. H.D. Bassett is deceased. He leaves nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
     Mr. Bassett was a member of the Methodist Church at Waldron, Indiana.
     The body has been take to the Ewing Mortuary, Shelbyville. Funeral services will be held there at 10:30 a.m. Monday. after 17 July 1953 Indiana.

    William A. Israel, business man here for nearly a quarter century, and one of the best known residents of the community, passed away at 5:30 o'clock Friday evening at his home, 901 south West street, following two weeks' serious illness, due to pneumonia. Mr. Israel had been in failing health over a period of six years and during the past few days, little hope was held for his recovery. His death is a shock to his hundreds of friends and business associates in this community and is deeply mourned. His sister, Mrs. Martha Bassett, preceded him in death only a few days ago.
     Funeral services are to be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the late home with Dr. L. T. Freeland, pastor of the First M.E. Church officiating. The body will be laid to rest at Temple Hill Mausoleum, north of this city, with Ezra Carmony, funeral director, in charge.
     Mr. Israel, a native of Lebanon, Ind., came to Shelbyville thirty-six years ago and since that time had resided here. For twenty-three years, he had been engaged in the retail grocery business, being proprietor of the store at West and Second street at the time of his death. Prior to taking over the business several years ago, he had been proprietor of a downtown grocery store and his acquaintanceship extended throughout the community.
     He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Israel and was born June 17, 1871, being at the time of death, sixty years, nine months and fifteen days old. He was the last of a family of seven children. He was united in marriage March 26, 1899, the widow, Mrs. Rose Israel, surviving.
     He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. V.A. Netcott, of Bloomington, Ind., a granddaughter, Patricia Netcott and an uncle, David Armstrong, of this city.
     Mr. Israel was a member of the First M. E. church in this city and was also affilliated with Chillon Lodge, No. 129, Knights of Pythias.
