  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Angel Reyes, 69, a violinist and music teacher, was a professor of violin at Northwestern University from 1955 to 1965. He later held a similar position at the University of Michigan. Memorial Services for Mr. Reyes, a resident of Sarasota, Fla., were private. He died Nov. 17 in a Sarasota nursing home. Mr. Reyes, a native of Havana, was a "premier prix" graduate at age 16 from the Paris Conservatory. Two years later, he won the coveted prize at the Ysaye International Competition in Brussels. His American debut was with Philadelphia Orchestra with Eugene Ormandy conducting. Over the years, his performances have included recital tours, recordings and radio and television shows in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe. He also judged many string and chamber music competitions. Before teaching at Northwestern and the University of Michigan, he was first violinist of the string quartet in residence at the University of Texas from 1947 to 1955. He also taught summers for 15 years at the music school at Interlochen, Mich. Survivors include his wife, Jill; a daughter, Lisa; a son, David; a grandchild; his mother, Ana; and two brothers.
