    Calvin L. Pearsall, 84, of Soap Lake went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 19, 2004 at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata. He was born on March 24, 1919 to Lester Earl and Mabel (Hughes) Pearsall in Danville, WA.

    Calvin attended school in Rice, WA. He married Claudine Furman in 1940 in Langley, WA, they were later divorced.

    He entered the U.S. Army in July, 1944, serving until his honorable discharge in January, 1946. Calvin worked as a mechanic; he owned and operated several gas stations on the west side of Washington State. He also worked at a Ford Dealership and at Weyerhaeuser retiring when he was 64 years of age.

    Calvin married Alice M. Patterson on August 28, 1980 in King County, he moved to the Columbia Basin in 1996 where he resided until his death.

    Mr. Pearsall is survived by his children; Loren Pearsall of Everett, Mike Pearsall of Irrigon, OR, Richard Pearsall of Soap Lake, Bruce Pearsall of Freeland, WA, Jim Patterson of Quincy; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Cliff Pearsall of Elma, WA, Bill Pearsall of Centralia, WA, sister, Donna Douke of Spokane.

    Calvin was preceded in death by his wife Alice in September, 1998; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

    Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at the Quincy Valley Cemetery.

    Amelia "Millie" Galloway, of Arroyo Grande died Monday, April 27, 1987, in a San Luis Obispo hospital, after a lengthy illness. Graveside services were held today at 2 p.m. in the Arroyo Grande Cemetery. Bishop Ronald Larsen of the Arroyo Grande Second Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, officiated. Mrs. White was born in San Luis Obispo and was a lifelong resident of the Five Cities area. She graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1957. She was chosen Grover City Mother of the Year in 1983 and was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 864, Pismo Beach. She is preceded in death by her father, Dimas Carranza, in 1960 and her brother, Vidal Carranza, in 1983. She is survived by her husband, William Galloway Jr., of Arroyo Grande; one son, Walter Johnson of the U.S. Navy; two daughters, Barbara and Tanya Johnson, both of Arroyo Grande; her mother, Dora Carranza of Arroyo Grande; one brother, Gilberto Carranza of Grover City; three sisters, Naomi Coffey of Arroyo Grande, Valentina Parker and Cementina Butler, both of Pismo Beach. Arrangements were under the direction of Wood-Voakes Mortuary in Arroyo Grande.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the William “Bill” Walter West, age 87, passed away on March 13, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center. Bill was born on July 10, 1935, in Sedalia, Missouri. He was the firstborn of William Delbert and Frances Elizabeth West. Bill was a 1953 graduate of John Marshal High School, L.A. City College, Glendale College, UCC and America Institute of Banking. Bill, an Army Veteran, family man and active community volunteer, had a full and successful lifetime of experiences, including service in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter. Bill spent 45 years in banking, the last 25 years were with Umpqua Bank. He spent most of his time in the community with the Vigilantes for Justice and with the South Douglas Rodeo. He was a past president of the Myrtle Creek and Sutherlin Chamber of Commerce as well as the Lions Club. Bill was a past treasurer for the Myrtle Creek and Sutherlin Chamber, chairman of Wood ‘n Nickel Days, Elder of the Tri-City Presbyterian Church, Elks Lodge #1943 trustee, leader of Webelos and Cub Scouts. He was also a member of the Umpqua Valley Community Hospital Advisory Board, South Umpqua Budget Committee, Lancer Booster Club, South Douglas Community Survey and was in the “Eye Spy” program. Bill was chosen “Boss of the Year” by America Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was in the “Men’s Beauty Contest” for Cystic Fibrosis. In 1977, Bill received Myrtle Creek’s Citizen of the Year and in 2018, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Bill was one of the starters of Vigilantes for Justice and the South Douglas Rodeo, the RV Park, the Turkey Grand Prix and participated in the Grand Pre for three years. He was involved with the “tree planting” down Main Street in Myrtle Creek. Bill was also involved with Marilyn in starting the All-Night Graduation Party for South Umpqua High School in 1983. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. They were married in 1965, at the home of his sister, Carolyn in Hacienda Heights, California. He is also survived by his son Steven, wife Katrina and their daughters, Natasha and Brook. Adopted daughter, Amber Johnson. Granddaughter, Crystal Finch from North Carolina. Son Bill, wife Pauline, their son Alex and wife Teresa. Daughters Ann and husband Robert, their children Jack, Harry and Molly.
