Beloved nephews and nieces are Neil Medlar, Marie Bird, Nathan Medlar, Betsy Christensen, William Otto, Andrew Talcott, and Simon Talcott. There are 12 great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her Aunt and Uncle, Jane and Neil Talcott. Susan received the "Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow Award" and was Valedictorian for the Glide High School Class of 1970. Following high school she was a DFPA lookout on Baughman Butte and attended UCC, then Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton where she earned an Associates Degree. She was bookkeeper for Athena Cattle Feeders for several years then returned to Glide and was employed by Douglas County Office of Management and Finance and Douglas County Sheriff's Department for nearly 30 years. She was director of Sonshine Kids and the Awana Program at Glide Baptist Church in the early 1990s. Susan enjoyed family holidays at the coast, adventures in the mountains and trips up the river - any river. She found lifelong pleasure from her horses, dogs, and cats. A memorial service will be held at a later date. We are confident that while she is "absent from the body" she is present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5).

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Jane Talcott peacefully passed away in Portland, OR, from kidney failure. She was at Mt. Hood Hospital only four hours with her daughter, Cathy, by her side. Jane had resided at Brookdale Memory Care in Roseburg until the death of her beloved husband, Neil, December 19, 2014. She was transferred to Brookdale in Troutdale to be near her daughter. They took weekly scenic drives up the gorge which Jane loved to do, it reminded her of the Umpqua River and home. She was born to Carl and Odille Messing October 11, 1932. Jane spent her entire life in Glide, OR, and 63 years with Neil on the Talcott Ranch. She was active in the Glide Wildflower Show with her twin sister, Jean Cross. They both sold J & J’s Jams and Jellies at the Douglas County Christmas Fair for years and entered products at the fair for many summers. They also volunteered at the Roseburg Mission. Jane was a member of the Glide Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school for many years. She is survived by her three children, Daniel of Bothell, WA, Cathy of Vancouver, WA, and Mark of Glide Talcott Ranch; her four grandchildren are Ryan of Bothell, WA, Joshua of Colorado, Luke of Glide, and Abigail of Montana; nieces, Cindy Medlar and Melissa Landy; and nephew, Bill Talcott, all reside in Glide and care for their mother, Jean. Thank you so much to the Roseburg Brookdale Facility for the excellent care provided my mother for three years. She loved the bus trips out and we loved the weekly entertainment. Thank you to Brookdale Troutdale for over three years of care given to Mom. The musical entertainment was great and the monthly themed dinners were a joy to attend. Your staff treated mom with respect and gentleness, thank you. The family will combine the ashes of Neil and Jane at the Wimberly Cemetery in Glide in early spring.
