  A funeral for Ruth Byers Scott, a longtime resident of the Portland area, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the First Christian Church of Vernonia.
  
  She died of cancer Tuesday in a Hillsboro hospital. Mrs. Scott was 84.
  
  Born Sept. 25, 1907, in Lamar, Colo., she moved to Oregon with her family in a covered wagon. Her maiden name was Byers. She later moved to Washougal, Wash., where she graduated from high school in 1925 and served as the school's first female student body president. Mrs. Scott moved to the Portland area during the late 1920s. She worked for the Pendleton Woolen Mills for 44 years until her retirement.
  
  She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
  
  Disposition was by cremation.
  
  The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to a favorite charity. on Friday, 17 July 1992 Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.
