    PRINCETON, Idaho-- A joint service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. here at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene for Gary Robert Gilliam Sr., 55, and his son, Gary Robert (Chip) Gilliam Jr., 16, of Harvard, Idaho.
    The two drowned Wednesday near Harvard while on a family outing.
    The Rev. John Smalldridge of that church and the Rev. Kathy Williams of the Elmore United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Woodfell Cemetery near Harvard. Viewing will be at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow Sunday and Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. both days.
    Gary Robert Gilliam Sr. was born June 2, 1941, to Alfred and Wilma Minden Gilliam at Moscow. He grew up in Princeton and graduated from Potlatch High School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army for two tours of duty in Korea.
    He married Janet Nichols in Princeton May 26, 1967. They lived in Alexandria, Va., until his discharge in 1968.
    They then returned to the Moscow area, where he was employed by Central Pre-Mix of Moscow. They moved to Harvard in 1974.
    He was a truck driver all of his working life, the past 14 years for Jack Buell Trucking.
    He had been active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
    He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. Together, they attended sporting events and fiddling contests.
    He is survived by his wife, Janet Gilliam of Harvard; three daughters, Cindy Miles of Weippe, Wendy Killmer of Spokane and Amy Gilliam of Pullman; his parents, Alfred and Wilma Gilliam of Princeton; two brothers, Norman Gilliam of Moxec, Wash., and Raymond Gilliam of Dallas, Ore; a sister, Karen Tish of Greenleaf, Idaho; and six grandchildren.
    Chip Gilliam, a Potlatch High School student, was born Jan. 27, 1980, in Pullman to Gary and Janet Nichols Gilliam. He was raised at Harvard and he attended Potlatch schools where he had just completed his sophomore year at Potlatch High School.
    At school he was involved in the Math Counts and Knowledge Bowl programs and the basketball, baseball and cross-country teams. He also was involved in 4-H, Boy Scouts and the Moscow American Legion Baseball Team.
    He collected baseball cards and enjoyed playing the fiddle and piano. He was president of the Potlatch Junior Jammers, a fiddle group. He competed in fiddle contests throughout the Northwest and consistently placed in the top five of his division for the past eight years. He had recently competed at the Grand Master's Fiddle Contest in Nashville, Tenn.
    Survivors in addition to those listed above include his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Martha Nichols of Emida, Idaho.
    Memorials may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund or to West One Bank at Potlatch in Gilliam's name to be used for the purchase of baseball equipment for Potlatch High School and to establish scholarships for fiddlers.
