    KENT, Robert William - 66 of Roseburg, passed away June 4, 1987 in a local hospital. He was born December 3, 1920 here in Roseburg and has lived in the area for most of his life. On December 8, 1942 he married his wife Mary in Omaha, Nebraska and they lived in the area since 1946. For many years Robert owned and operated Kent Radio & TV and was also employed by the City of Roseburg Maintenance Department. He was a Veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. Bob is a member of the Roseburg Elks Lodge and the Faith Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Mary of Roseburg; their children Gerald and his wife Cindy Kent of Roseburg; daughter Janet and her husband Jim Fryback of Springfield; a brother Kenneth Kent of Reedsport; sister Gertrude Wingfield of Scio, Oregon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew, Courtney, Emmalee Kent of Roseburg; Jamie and Jennifer Fryback of Springfield. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 7, 1987 at 4 PM at the Faith Lutheran Church with Pator Dennis Marttala officiating with Interment at Roseburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Contributions have been requested to be made to either the Oregon Lung Association or the Faith Lutheran Church. These may be left at the service or with the Wilson's Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home who are in charge of arrangements.

    Gertrude I. Wingfield, 81, of Lebanon died Thursday at her home.
    Gertrude was born in Roseburg, the daughter of Robert and Lucie (White) Kent. She lived in the Roseburg area throughout her childhood, where she attended and completed her schooling.
    She worked in the ship yards during World War II, where she met William Wingfield. They were married in Vancouver, Wash., on Oct. 4, 1943.

    Gertrude and William worked at fish hatcheries in several communities throughout Oregon. They worked at the Roaring River Hatchery near Lacomb for several years. After retiring, they built their dream home near the fish hatchery, where they resided for many years. Gertrude moved into Lebanon in the late 1980s.

    She was involved with the Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Bitter Bunch Pinochle Club, Rebekah's Lodge, American Legion and the Elks Lodge. She enjoyed helping neighbors, making Christmas wreaths and helping work at the fish hatchery.

    Gertrude was preceded in death by husband William in 1984; son Kenneth in 1996; two brothers, and one great-grandchild.

    She is survived by daughter Linda Gaines of Scio; granddaughter Shannon Gaines; grandsons Ryan Gaines, Kent and Colin Wingfield, and great-granddaughter Ashley Nicole Gaines.

    A graveside service was held Aug. 30 at Providence Cemetery near Scio.
    She was born June 14, 1924, in Roseburg, the daughter of Robert and Lucie (White) Kent.
    She lived in the Roseburg area throughout her childhood and completed school there.

  • Note*: She ROSEBURG - Two brothers pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide charges in the death of a woman in 1998.

    Jeremiah and Joshua Cox were sentenced Friday to three years probation and several treatment programs.

    Rona Agee, 39, of Roseburg, was killed in November 1998. A car driven by Jeremiah Cox, then 21, hit Agee's station-wagon head-on.

    Joshua Cox, then 19, allegedly grabbed the wheel of the truck moment's before the accident.

    Agee died at the scene. Joshua Cox had blood alcohol levels over the legal limit. Jeremiah Cox's blood alcohol levels were in dispute.

    Family members convinced the brothers to plead guilty and take responsibility for the accident, according to the district attorney's office.

    ``I'm sad that it took so long for the family to find closure and justice,'' said Rick Wesenberg, deputy Douglas County district attorney. ``But I'm glad the boys finally did the right thing and so is the (Agee) family.''
