  Thomas Gibbons, 77, of San Luis Obispo died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at a San Luis Obispo care center. At his request, there will be no services. Mr. Gibbons was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Glasgow, Scotland, to Albert and Mary McMillian Gibbons. At age three months, the family migrated to Canada before settling in Burlington, Vt. They moved to San Luis Obispo in 1927. He attended local schools and graduated from San Luis Obispo in 1927. He attended local schools and graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1947, he married Wilma Jean Pool in San Jose. Mr. Gibbons was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years before going to work for the Cal Poly mail center. He retired in the mid-1980s. Mr. Gibbons was an avid golfer and was a member of the Morro Bay Golf Club. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Luis Obispo and King Davi Lodge No. 209 F&AM. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma Gibbons of San Luis Obispo; and two daughters, Jean Schauerman of Eugene Oregon and Marilyn Spoeneman and husband Randy of San Luis Obispo. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Masonic Homes 1111 California St., San Francisco, CA 94108 or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Reis Chapel in San Luis Obispo.
