Aged 70 years 11 months and 27 days. The deceased came to Oregon with his parents by crossing the plains in 1846 and located in Yamhill county. After a residence of two years in Yamhill, they came to Lane county and cast their lot with the people of this, then new country April 1st 1852. He was united in marriage to Matilda Paradine Gibson. The issue of this union were eight children, two dying in infancy and Mary the eldest in June 1896. His wife and five children survive him - John, Jason, Archie, James and Mrs. J. H. Davis of Colfax, Washington. He was a kind and faithful husband, an indulgent father, and loved and respected by his neighbors and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the Richardson cemetery, where notwithstanding the severe stormy weather a large concourse of sorrowing friends met to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed. Elder C. P. Bailey conducted the services. after 19 January 1903.
