MT. ANGEL - Teresa was born on March 15, 1911 to Peter and Anna (Schneider) Kirsch in Salem. She was the youngest of six children and the last child to outlive all her siblings.
Before she became married, she had operated the elevator at the court house where she met her future husband, Connell. They were married on February 22, 1934 here in Salem. He passed away on July 20, 1991.
Teresa was known for giving candy to everyone. Her family gave her the title of “Nutrageous Lady” because she handed out that brand of candy bar. Recently she had resided at Mt. Angel Towers. Every year at Christmas, she invited everyone of the residents to come and experience the enormous tree she put up. It was quite a sight to behold!
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Rose and Joan Jordan both of Albany, and Carol Ward of Portland. Four grandchildren also survive her.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 25 from 12 - 6 p.m. at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Private interment will take place at City View Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to: Mt. Angel Abbey, Attn: Seminary Education Fund, 1 Abbey Dr., St. Benedict, OR 97373. Arrangements by Virgil T. A memorial service for Stephen C. Ward, who operated the Truffle Hunter Restaurant in Gresham, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham.
Mr. Ward died of a heart attack Tuesday in a Portland-area hospital. He was 51.
He was born Aug. 17, 1941, in Salem. He graduated from North Salem High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Willamette University. Mr. Ward served in the U.S. Army in the Pentagon's Intelligence Division from 1963 to 1965. He had been a store manager for Sprouse Reitz, and then was a field representative for the State Accident Insurance Fund.
In 1983, he and his wife, Mary, opened the Truffle Hunter restaurant.
Mr. Ward was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Columbia Pacific Boy Scouts.
A viewing will take place in the Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Mr. Ward is survived by his wife; stepchildren, J.P. Cook of Klamath Falls, Summer Stenbeck of Spokane and Grayson Cook of Corvallis; mother, Teresa Ward of Salem; sisters, Joan Jordan of Brush Prarie, Wash., Mary Rose of Albany and Carol Ward of Portland; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to the American Heart Association of the Columbia Pacific Boy Scouts.
