    Harold H. McGowan Sr., 73, died yesterday at a local hospital after a long illness. Born in Monterey, Mr. McGowan was employed at Fort Ord as an engineer for 28 years. He resided in Marina at 3004 King Cir. He was a member of the American Rifle Association.
    Mr. McGowan was the grandson of the Rev. James S. McGowan, who founded and built St. James Episcopal Church in Monterey, and the son of Dr, James L. McGowan first dentist in Monterey.
    He is survived by three sons Harold H. McGowan Jr. of Monterey, William E. McGowan of Salinas and Shaun P. McGowan of Marina; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Ferris of Moline, Ill, Arlene Rilley of Prunedale, and Mary Ann Brown of North Dakota, 18 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. His wife, Mildred, died in 1952.
    Funeral arrangements are pending at Farlinger Funeral Home. on Saturday, 4 November 1972 Monterey, Monterey County, California.

    Bill McGowan, 79, of Salinas, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011, following a brief illness. Born May 8, 1932 in Salinas, he grew up in Monterey and attended Monterey High School. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 until 1954. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his roots in the Monterey area where he met and married the love of his life, Donna, and they had three daughters. Bill worked at Schilling and McCormick from 1967 to 1996, where he made many lifelong friends. After he retired, he took a part-time job at Girardi Bearing Company for 11 years. Bill was an outgoing man who never met a stranger. He was a great conversationalist and storyteller. His interests included motorcycles, cars and guns but he was most happy when he was in his recliner watching TV. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna C. McGowan, and his granddaughter, Kacee Van Hoy. He is survived by his three loving daughters and their husbands, Cynthia (Mike) Reagan, Terry (Mark) Van Hoy and Kim (Trace) Ketchum and his granddaughters, Krystyn (Kurt) Harmon, Kate (Mike) Pepper and Karlee and Kimberlee Van Hoy. Visitation will take place this Friday, November 18, 2011 at 12:00 noon at The Paul Mortuary Chapel, 390 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove; with the Funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m; followed by Burial at Monterey City Cemetery.
