He drifted into this community, no one knows from where, about three years ago in answer to an advertisement asking for a man to manage the ranch belonging to Miss Dillon and her sister, trained nurses of the Hot Lake Sanitarium in Eastern Oregon. The ranch is situated on Clatskanie Heights and the ladies owning it only spend their vacations here. He gave every evidence of culture, education and refinement, but John Barleycorn had defeated him in the game of life. However, his appearance inspired such confidence that he was engaged to care for the ranch, and has most faithfully proven true to the confidence reposed in him. He has made no friends and nothing whatever is known of him. By a strange coincidence Miss Dillon arrived in town on the day of the accident and cared for the injured man at the Grand Central Hotel until the end came. "Funeral services were conducted at the grave on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. H. F. Gelvin, of the Presbyterian Church, officiating." after 6 May 1918.
