F, b. 22 August 1933, d. 7 September 2012
  • Married Name: As of 1956,her married name was Mecham.
  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the On September 7, 2012, Lois Esther Stephenson Mecham passed with grace from this life, surrounded by what mattered most, her devoted husband and family. She was a great woman, with a joyful spirit, who was beloved by all. Lois was born on August 22, 1933 in Prineville, Oregon. Her parents, Thomas C. Stephenson and Anona Gage Stephenson, were both descended from Oregon pioneer families who homesteaded and ranched in Central Oregon from the 1860s. Her children loved hearing her stories of growing up on her parents' ranch in the Ochoco Mountains near Mitchel, OR, such as the three-plus mile rides on horseback to school. She took pride in her riding and cowgirl skills, working alongside her dad, mom, sisters and brothers. She also took her riding skills to town, serving as rodeo princess for the Crooked River Roundup in Prineville. In the 1950s, Mitchell was also a sawmill town, and it was there that Lois met her longtime love, Lloyd, who had come from Klamath Falls to work in the mills. After he returned from the Army, they were married in 1956 in Stevenson, WA. Their marriage, which lasted over 56 years, was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. The family was able to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary last year. Lloyd's work took the family to Emmett, ID in 1962. Somehow the Oregon girl adapted and found her second home. She also joined and became a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings and always happy to share with others her faith and convictions. She provided an extraordinary home environment while raising her family, mastering homemaking skills the same way she mastered everything she did in life. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and her younger brother, William (Billy) Stephenson, who was killed in action in Vietnam. She is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd Mecham; her four children: Duane (Mary Lou) Mecham, Darla Mecham, Deidre (Jay) Heinrich, and Denise (Greg) Himes; 11 grandchildren: Christian, Danielle and Molly Mecham, Vincent, MacKenzie, Gage and Madison Heinrich, Cyrus and Sherazade Ariavand, Nikolas and Zoie Himes; her sisters: Cassie Hobby and Bessie Marsh; and her brother, Tommy Stephenson. She was loved by so many people, including her extended family of nieces and nephews and special friends, and will be missed by all. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the LDS Stake Center, 980 West Central Road, Emmett, ID. A viewing will be on Wednesday, September 12, at the Potter Funeral Chapel, Emmett, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The burial will be at West Branch Cemetery, Mitchell, OR.
