On the day of his death , January 14, he had enjoyed the day fishing and when suddenly stricken was out on the water in a boat with his wife, laughing and talking. He is survived by his widow and six children, namely, Mrs. E. T. Johnson, James F., Kathern, Bertha, Nita, and Clarence Gilmore; also three brothers and one sister, Joseph, Frank, and Grant Gilmore of Mason City, Ill., and Mrs. Kathern Crafton of Springfield, Ill; also four grandsons and three granddaughters. All his children and grandchildren were at his funeral, also his brother Frank Gilmore. Funderal services were conducted at the Baptist Church in Steelville by the pastor Rev. G. Owens Baxter. The remains were laid to rest in Barnicle Chapel cemetery Sunday afternoon by that of his daughter Mrs. Henry Davis who preceded him two years ago. He was a kind and loving husband, a devoted father and a loyal friend, loved by all who knew him. He always had a kind and cheerful word for every one. Jesus while our hearts are bleeding, O'er the spoils that death hath won, Would at this solemn parting Calmly say, "Thy will be done." By thy hands the boon was given.
