The last to die is John Oltman of the road that leads down to gas tank hill toward the distillery. Mr. Oltman has been a sufferer from gall bladder trouble for some time. He talked to a local surgeon about an operation, then the matter was dropped. Yesterday they came to the surgeon with a request for an immediate operation.
Seeing the plight of the patient, the surgeon was reluctant to operate, but Oltman wanted the one chance for life that an operation afforded.
Opening the abdomen, the surgeon found a cancer of the pancreas and altogether hopeless condition. Mr. Oltman lived until the clock counted the stroke of midnight last night, then died.
He was fifty years old last February 26. Surviving children are Marie Nash, Charles, Irene Cooper, Goldie and Loretta. A brother Ed and half brother Charles Hopkins of Pekin, and half sister, Roselli Hoffman of Danvile survive, as also does a sister, Anna, whose abouts ad last name are unknown. after 18 October 1927 Illinois.
