Mrs. Mary E. HODGES, 75, widow of the late R. D. Hodges, and a daughter of Mrs. Martha CARTER of the Palestine neighborhood pioneer of 1845 who is now nearly one hundred years old, died at the Albany general hospital at 9:15 P.M. yesterday as the result of an attack of pneumonia from which she had been suffering for several weeks.
Mrs. Hodges was born in the Palestine neighborhood 8 Feb 1859, her parents being Martha and Tolbert Carter, pioneers of 1845. Mrs. Hodges grew to womanhood in this community and was united in marriage with Robert D. Hodges also of this of the county 1 Oct 1879. Mr. Hodges was called by death 6 Aug 1929. They had spent practically all of their married life in this neighborhood. Mrs. Hodges was a member of the Palestine Baptist church and known as a worthy member.
Beside her aged mother she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alma Stewart of Albany R. F. D. No. 4 and Mrs. Iva Ingalls of Seattle, WA, also two granddaughters and one great granddaughter, four brothers, Elvin Carter of Bickleton, WA, J.A. Carter, PA, Carter and W. A. Carter of the Wells neighborhood, also a sister, Mrs. Clara Taylor of Independence. A large number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held from the Fisher-Braden funeral chapel beginning art 2:30 Monday afternoon, May 7. Interment will be made in the Palestine cemetery.
