Mrs. Bracken was a former volunteer for the Older Adults Transportation Service, of which she received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Born in King City on Jan.2, 1932, she lived all her life in King City. Mrs. Bracken was a graduate of King City High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, King City; and Auxiliary to the King City American Legion Post No. 132. On May 13, 1950, she married Charles T. Bracken in Maysville, Mo. He died in 1997. Mrs. Bracken also was preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen E; and her parents, William E. and Stella L. Evans. Surviving: a daughter, Michele Buhman, Amity, Mo; four sons, Charles, Honolulu, Hawaii, Daniel, King City, and James and David, both of St. Joseph; a brother, William Evans, St. Joseph; two sisters, Martha Spires, Maysville, and Maxine Young, St. Joseph; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Martha Eleanor (Evans) Spiers went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1, 2024. Martha was born on May 1, 1924, at Bolckow, Missouri, to William Everett and Stella Leanora Winifred (Williams) Evans. She had a brother William David (Bill), sisters, Maxine (Evans) Young, and Geraldine Winifred (Evans) Bracken. Martha attended twelve years of grade and High School at King City School. After graduating she attended Platt Business College in St. Joseph, MO. She was employed at several businesses in St. Joseph, including Kresge Dime Store, her first place of employment while going to school. On October 17, 1943, she married Marion Spiers of Maysville, MO. Their first home was northwest of Fairport, MO. Into this union six children were born: Lyndia Joyce Wykert, Marion, Pamela Jeanne Wykert, Randolph, Richard (Shannon), and Marsha Ellen (Paul) Smith. Martha and Marion lived in the Maysville/Fairport area all their married life.
    Martha accepted Christ as her savior on her eight birthday and was a member of the King City Baptist Church, moving her letter to the First Baptist Church of Maysville after her marriage to Marion and moving to that area in 1954. Martha was preceded in death by her husband Marion; their son, Randolph (who was killed in Vietnam in 1970); her parents; mother-in-law/father-in-law, Roy and Jennie (Spiers) Gromer; sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Charles Bracken; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Russell Young; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Helen (Snuffer) Evans; son-in-law, Larry Wykert; niece Helen Evans (#7). Martha was a member of First Baptist Church of Maysville and was active in her church as Secretary for many years until she retired in January 2021. She loved and cherished her family with all her heart, many dear Christian friends and others she held dear. Martha's greatest wish was for all her family and friends to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8th 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Maysville with Pastor Greg Dixon officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Maysville, by the side of Marion, the love of her life. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Maysville. after 1 May 2024.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Edna Jane Mathis Andrews, 37, of Sun Valley died Jan.20, 2000, at Washoe Medical Center. A native of Sacramento, Calif., she was born Sept. 19, 1962, to FredJohn and Nina Marie (Smith) Mathis and had lived in Sun Valley for the past 21 years, coming from Shingle Springs, Calif. Mrs. Andrews was a cafeteria manager at Donner Springs Elementary School and a 1980 graduate of Sparks High School. Her parents preceded her in death. Surviving are son, Joshua Mathis; brother, Loren Mathis; sisters, Linda Mathis and Vicky Duggins, all of Sun Valley; brothers, Johnny Mathis of West Sacramento, Calif., and Robert Mathis of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Mountain View Cemetery, 435 Stoker Ave., under the direction of Walton's Sparks Funeral Home. A memorial fund is being established with the American Cancer Society, 712 Mill St., Reno 89502.
