William B Evans

M, b. 23 January 1862, d. 19 December 1903
  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Killed by a Fall.
Sheriff Jennings and Dr. Graham were called to King City last Saturday to hold a coroner's inquest over the remains of Wm Evans, a King City carpenter, who fell from the roof of a barn on which he was working at the farm of A.F. Graves, five miles north of King City. Evans and Chas. Spaht had been working together on the barn and Spaht had gone to the other side of the barn for some nails. He was only gone a moment or two, but when he returned he found Evans lying on the ground about fifteen feet from the barn. He had fallen about twenty two feet; his skull was fractured, and he died in just a few moments. He leaves a wife and five or six small children in almost destitute circumstances.

  • Obituary: An obituary appeared in the A noble christian life in the person of William B. Evans of this city came to a sudden end five miles north of town, Saturday, December, 19. He was working on a barn and it is supposed from best evidence obtained that he lost his balance in some way and fell with such force that be was instantly killed. The deceased was born in Chesterville, Morrow county (sic), Ohio, January 23, 1862. When but a boy he moved with his parents to Gentry county (sic) and settled on a farm near Stanberry and afterwards moved near Maysville. He gave his heart to God and joined the Methodist church when but twelve years of age, and while he took no prominent place in the church, yet he was true and faithful and loved and feared his Maker until the day of his death. He was married to Miss Elizabeth M. Matthis (sic), February 23, 1888. To this union six children were born, all of whom are yet living.
The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, A. D Davis, at the home in King City, Monday, December 21, before a goodly number of sorrow-stricken relatives and friends, after which the body was laid to rest in the King City cemetery (sic) to await the day when the Heavenly Master shall come to make up his jewels. Bro. Evans' father preceded him December 31, 1901. His mother, Mrs. Harriet Evans, is yet living and she with her daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Davis of Pattonsburg, Missouri, with whom she makes her home, attended the funeral of the deceased. .The other daughter, Sarah E. Polling of Huntington, Indiana, was not present. Bro. Evans was truly a good man. May the Holy Spirit cheer and comfort the hearts of the widowed wife and fatherless children, and may they be proventially (sic) kept through the future experiences of life.
