  SALEM - Pauline H. (Berndt) Woodard passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 25, 2008. She was 74. She was born June 16, 1933 at home in Rosedale, Oregon, south of Salem, to Paul and Helen Berndt. She attended Western Oregon State College before transferring to Pacific Union College in Angwin, Calif. where she finished her bachelor's degree in Education. After graduation, she used the nation's shortage of teachers to experience different parts of the country; teaching in Arizona, California, Montana, and Oregon, including Livingstone Adventist Academy here in Salem where she met her husband, Warren. They were married on March 28, 1965. When the time came, Pauline stayed home to raise her children. After a time, she started providing childcare to others and remained friends with many of the children and their parents until her death. For the past twelve years, Pauline provided elder care, treating each client with love and respect.
  Pauline was an active life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and will be remember most for teaching children's and adult Sabbath classes. She also directed the South Salem Pathfinder Club and most recently served as the Salem Central Church librarian. Pauline enjoyed sewing, vegetable and flower gardening, traveling, studying the Bible, and getting together with family and friends. Her travels took her across the U.S. as well as Alaska, Belize, Canada, the Caribbean, Guatamala, Mexico, Russia, and Taiwan.
  Pauline is survived by her husband, Warren of Salem; daughter, Wendy and husband John Stumph of Plattsburgh, N.Y; sons, Wayne of Portland, Ron and wife Cindy of Glendale, Calif., and Gary of Crescent City, Calif; three sisters, Eleanore and husband Andrew Tarangul of Kelso, Wash., Gayle and husband Erroll Berryman of Salem, and Joan and husband Richard Smith of Payette, Idaho; two brothers, Rodger and wife Meg Berndt of Salem, and Garry and wife Alice Berndt of Salem; and eight grandchildren.
  A private interment was held at Rosedale Friends Cemetery on Thur., May 29. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sun., June 8 at Salem Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1330 Summer St. NE., Salem with a reception following. In leiu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maranatha or BanglaHope. Arrangements are by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
