  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Warren Duane "Woody" Woodard, 96, passed away on August 2, 2026, in Vancouver, Washington. Warren was born on May 26, 1930, to Rube and Lydia Sproed Woodard of Mineral Center, Minnesota, way up in the northeast corner of the state. In 1942 when he was 12, the family moved to Denver, Colorado, due to his father's health. There Warren went to his first cinema, had his first ice cream cone, and rode an electric bike. He also contracted Rheumatic fever and had to stay home from school for a year, which he didn't mind at all. Colorado was not the right climate for his father's health so they continued west to Gaston, Oregon in 1944 where his mother had family and there was a local Seventh-day Adventist community and school. After graduating from Laurelwood Adventist Academy in 1948, he worked in the sawmill for two years before a friend talked him into attending Walla Walla College (now University) in College Place, Washington. After only one year there, he was drafted into the Korean War in the fall of 1951, spending his time as an x-ray technician at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. After returning home to Gaston two years later, he married June Rainwater in 1954 and then returned to college to study industrial arts, graduating from Walla Walla College in 1958. His sons Ron and Gary were born while he was in college. After graduation he taught fourth grade in Grandview, Washington, before moving to Salem, Oregon and working for the Oregon State Employment Division for many years. In 1965 Warren married Gary's second grade teacher, Pauline Berndt and they added Wendy and Wayne to the family. In 1967 Warren began building the family home on property outside of Salem, and enjoyed taking his family on tent camping and canoeing adventures. Pauline passed away in 2008 and Warren married Sandra Monroe Feyen and inherited two daughters, Laurie and Sheryl. Warren enjoyed traveling and visited 45 of the 50 states and Canada, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Taiwan. He was a long-time member of the Salem Central Seventh-day Adventist church and served in many capacities including Sabbath School teacher and superintendent, deacon and elder. He was a member of the Orchards Seventh-day Adventist Church in Vancouver for the last four years. Warren had a long life full of love and is survived by his wife Sandra, his children Ron (Cindy), Gary, Wayne (Jennifer), and Wendy Stumph (John), bonus daughters Laurie Ramos (Juan) and Sheryl Dopps (Steve), grandchildren Alyse, Sophie, Jason, Elizabeth, Daniel, Sara, Kinley and Matthew, bonus granddaughters Jasmine, Jordan, Skylar and Sierra, and great-grandchildren Summer, Brooke, Cash, Warren, Liliana and Raelynn. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
