She was born November 23, 1933 in Fletcher, North Carolina to Lewis Watson Israel, Sr. and Mary Mabel Davidson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her son, Phillip; her daughter, Paula Stallard Whitehead, her parents; two sisters, Mary Kate and Irene; her brother John, and other friends and loved ones. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Bob Ramsak and Heather and David Anderson; grandchildren Melissa (Evans) and Justin Davidson, Katie (Anderson) and Brent Charles Alexander, Carrie, Landrum, and Brendan Anderson; step-grandchildren and their spouses, Rob, Ronda, Derek, Rachel, Seth, Kelly, Matt and Wendy Ramsak and Megan and Shane Dickerson; several step-great-grandchildren; her brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews; Israel and Stallard family members; special friends Robert Steele and Steve Rowland; and other extended family and friends. After graduating from Candler High school, Rosie earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Berea College, where she met her beloved husband of 60 years, Paul Clay Stallard. She also earned a master's degree in special education from the University of Houston. Rosie taught regular and special education in Texas, Kentucky and Louisiana, retiring in 1992 from Orleans Parish Schools. She was a strong supporter of and advocate for her students, who could often be found at the table in the family's New Orleans home, receiving extra help from "Mrs. Stallard." Rosie was sharp-witted and liked to have a good time. She loved to read and fostered a love of reading and learning in her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed crosswords and other puzzles and was a phenomenal Scrabble player. Her favorite activities were those shared with family. She spent many hours supporting her family's interests, from Boy and Girl Scouts and youth group to painting and gingerbread houses. Among the many skills she taught her family were making Christmas cookies, catching Mardi Gras beads and doubloons, crabbing, and snagging a table at Café Du Monde. She was talented at arts, crafts, and sewing. Her family will always treasure the many beautiful quilts she made for them. Upon retirement, Rosie and Paul moved to Asheville, North Carolina and spent many happy years traveling, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying the beauty of the mountains. The family wishes to thank the staff of Pass Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care. A daughter of Johney Ray Baldock and Alma Ellen Yaden, she was born September 19, 1933, at Phil, Casey County, Kentucky. At age 16 she graduated from Hustonville High School, in Lincoln County, Kentucky. She then attended Berea College graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While at Berea College she developed a life long passion for the theater arts and received the award for actress of the year from the drama department. She also met Kenneth Davidson Israel, who was to be her future husband. After graduation she taught school in Ohio waiting for Kenneth Israel while he served in the United States Army. Upon his discharge from service, the couple married and moved to North Carolina where they taught in Transylvania County schools. Jewel entered George Peabody College for Teachers, where she received a master’s degree. Jewel received a scholarship from the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a doctorate. After graduation Jewel became professor at Jacksonville University. Her calling in life was as a school principal where she felt she made a real difference in the lives of children. When Jewel retired, she and Ken made their home, at Candler, and had over two decades of happiness. Jewel served as a missionary for the Kentucky Baptist Association, by directing Vacation Bible Schools, in rural parts of Kentucky. She was superintendent of Sunday School in San Diego, CA. She was listed in Personalities of the South 1976-1977. She was an avid bird-watcher. She loved books and reading, especially books about North Carolina and Kentucky. She enjoyed all types of needlework. She wrote weekly articles for the Enka-Candler Record, The Canton Enterprise, The Senior News Post and The Waynesville Mountaineer. Preceding Jewel in death were her parents, Johney Ray and Alma Ellen Yaden Baldock; two brothers, Ira Gene Baldock and J. C. Baldock, a sister Pearl Faye Baldock Hardison; and a grandson James Daniel Lee. Surviving Jewel is her husband Dr. Kenneth Davidson Israel; children Susan Faith Israel and Timothy Neil Israel and wife Ann Evett Israel; grandchildren Jessica Elizabeth Lee and her husband Matthew Lance Watson, Timothy Robert Israel, and Emily Rose Israel; and a brother Ray Baldock. Also surviving are grandchildren of choice, David Ryan Barton, Alicia McNeely Cox, Michael Dale McNeely, Justin Dale McNeely, Lewis Shepard Jr. and Julie Shepard McNeely. A celebration of Jewel’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 10, 2013 at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church in Candler.     Nate was born in Fort Smith, AR, to parents Jerry and Nancy (Fulton) Bonewitz. He earned a degree in religion from the University of Nebraska, and worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a dispatch manager. Nate enjoyed being both a student and an instructor with Master H.C. Kim’s World Class Tae-Kwon-Do Center in Overland Park.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Fulton Bonewitz. Nate is survived by: his wife, Rachel; father, Jerry Bonewitz; step-daughters Hannah, Olivia, and Ava; aunts, Janice (Al) Himegarner, Peggy (Ron) Everly, and Mary Ann Kline; uncle, Don (Linda) Bonewitz; half-sisters, Jennifer Cleveland and Darla (Chad) O’Kane; and nieces and nephews.
