Mr. Gilliam was born Jan. 6, 1925 in Denison the son of Basil and Bessie Gilliam. Jamie was a graduate of Denison High School. He served his country proudly in the U. S. Navy in 1942 on the USS Warrior as a naval gunnersmate. After his service, he began a career with the MKT Railroad in 1946. Jamie married Estella Imogene Henderson on June 19, 1959 in Denison. He later owned and operated Gilliam's House Moving Service for 50 years until retiring. Mr. Gilliam was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Denison. He enjoyed football and was an avid Denison Yellow Jacket Fan. Jamie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Gilliam is survived by his loving family, wife of 49 years, Imogene Gilliam of Denison; son, Ricky Gilliam and wife, Lee Ann of Denison; daughters, Jana Wilkins and fiance, Kevin of Waxahachie, Kela Cooper and husband, Jack of Denison, Gina Alexander and husband, Don of Denison, Debra Doty and husband, J. C. of Denison, and Sherry Tussing and husband, Duff of McKinney; grandchildren, Ashley Jaresh and husband, Rick; Nicole Gilliam; Deana Miller and husband, Cecil; Dedra James and husband, Kerry; Rogers Hornsby IV and wife, Ronna; Kellie Gibson; Kelt Gibson and wife, Christy; Ryan Alexander and wife, Ashley; Cole Alexander; Brittany Ivy and husband, Chris; Trey Doty and wife, Meredith; Dean Slagle and wife, Joni; Gia Foy and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Hawthorne officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kelt Gibson, Rogers Hornsby IV, Trey Doty, Dean Slagle, Justin Slagle and Blake Osbourn. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Gladden and Lynn Felps.
The family wishes to thank Mullican Care Center staff for their excellent and professional care of their father, Jamie.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 W. Main in Denison.
