Ruth was born to Larkin and Perthenia (Woodward) Gage on Jan. 9, 1914 at Homestead Gable Creek in Mitchell, Ore. She moved to West Branch when she was three weeks old and lived at the Gage Ranch. She attended grade school at West Branch and Mitchell, and high school in Tygh Valley (Dufur). In May, 1932 she graduated from Mitchell High School. She lived most of her life in Oregon, and considered Prineville, where she moved in 1956, to be her home.
Ruth was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Mitchell Lioness Club, Prineville Lions Club and Prineville Eagles Club. Ruth was an avid sewer and quilter, and also enjoyed working with fabric and handiwork. She enjoyed dancing, and collecting rocks and old coins. She had a deep appreciation for Native American culture, and was thrilled to find arrowheads and other Native American tools around central Oregon. She also loved laughing, children, (especially young babies and her own great-grandchildren), Mitchell, hunting, fishing and the Atlanta Braves.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, son Joe, her sisters Gladys, Elsie and Mary, and her brothers Willard and Ray.
Ruth is survived by her son Jimmy of Copalis Beach, Wash. and daughter Molly Destefano, of Spokane, Wash., 12 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at Whispering Pines Funeral Home in Prineville, Ore. on Friday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. Burial and graveside services will follow at the West Branch Cemetery near Mitchell, and a community potluck dinner will follow. Ray attended school in Mitchell. After school he entered the U.S. Marines. He spent time in Guadalcanal., Okinawa, Saipan and China from December, 1943 to April, 1946 at which time he was honorably discharged in San Diego, California.
In 1948 Ray married Darlene Rose in Pasco, Washington.
He then moved back to his home town of Mitchell where he became a logger and construction worker.
In 1958 he went to work for the Wheeler County Road department and retired in 1996 as a road master.
Ray)s hobbies consisted of hunting, fishing, and spending time with family, his grandchildren and many friends.
Ray is survived by one son, Darrel and his wife Donna Gage of Hermiston, Oregon, one daughter, Susie and her husband Mike Kelley of Prineville, Oregon; one sister, Ruth Mulvahill, of Prineville, Oregon. Ray is also survived by, seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grand children.
Ray is preceded in death by, his parents, wife Darlene, Sisters, Gladys Campbell, Elsie Miller, Mary Misener, and one brother, Willard Gage.

He began working for the Wheeler County road department in 1956 and retired in 1996 as a road master. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

MITCHELL -- Tanklin "Ray" Gage of Mitchell died June 6, 2006, at his home. He was 80. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mitchell Baptist Church.
Mr. Gage was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Mitchell, to William Larkin and Perthenia Woodward Gage. He attended school in Mitchell.
