He was born in Philomath to Oren and Pearl McDowell Gee. He joined the Navy in 1944 and was discharged in 1947. He worked most of his life in the timber industry, spending 16 years in various places in Alaska. He married Frances Keanedy in 1978 in Reno, Nev. He was a member of the Corvallis Moose Lodge, life member of the Springfield VFW and a former member of the American Legion in Albany. He enjoyed working in his yard. Survivors include his wife; son, Mike of Canada; daughter, Linda Peterson of Clovis, Calif; stepdaughters, Jody Carter of Walla Walla, Wash., and Patty Tope and Terry Byers, both of Corvallis; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Steeprow, and brother, Jiramy Gee.
A service will begin at
10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at the family home in Corvallis.
Memorial donations can be made to Benton County Hospice Service. on Thursday, 19 September 2002 Corvallis, Benton County, Oregon.

Herbert C. Hood died Monday, May 12, at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. He was 88. Born in Philomath on Nov. 20, 1919, to Clifford and Emma (McDowell) Hood, Herbert was a lifelong resident of Benton County. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1940 until 1945 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. On Oct. 31, 1951, Herbert married Erma L. Peterson. He worked mostly as a logger, truck driver and in area saw mills. He was a member of local military volunteer groups such the American Legion and loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife, Erma, of Corvallis; sons, Norman of Hawaii and Russell of Iowa; two brothers, Gordon of Albany and Vernon of Philomath; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, in the Summit Cemetery. Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home.
