Salem - Donald W. Lewis, 71, was born in Southgate, Calif. and moved to Salem with his parents, Glenn and Frances Bellamy Lewis at the age of six months. He attended Salem High School and spent two years in the Army Signal Corp. He married Virginia Bickell on Dec. 6, 1952. He spent about 45 yearsin the amusement business, part of them as co-owner and operator of SalemAmusement. He spent many years as a reserve deputy for Polk County andwas also their recovery diver for a time. An avid outdoorsman, he particularly enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. He was an active lifetime member of Vista Masonic Lodge No. 215 and a member of the Scottish Rite, achieving the 33rd degree and receiving his pin and white hat in S. Carolina at the centennial convention of the Mother Lodge in 2001, also accompanied by his wife and children. He and his wife are members of Trinity Chapter OES and Clackamas Cruisers Masonic camping club. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and Amvets, and amember of the Keizer Elks. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Micheal Hellums of Portland; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Kelly Lewis of Powhatan, Va;two beloved granddaughters,Christina and Vanessa Hellums; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Mildred Lewis; as well as nephews and their families; and mother-in-law, Marie Shepard. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sun., Oct. 12 at the ScottishRite Temple, 4090 S.Commercial St. In lieu of flowers, donations may bemade to the Sottish Rite Foundation for Childhood Language Disorders (SRFCLD) or a favorite charity.

Lewis has been active in Oregon Masonry since 1967, and has served invirtually every capacity. The lodge members gave him a plaque thatformalized his outstanding contributions to his fellow Masons and VistaLodge.
Mrs. Virginia Lewis was present for the ceremony, along with many othervisitors.
