  Mr. Ross was a lifelong resident of Modesto. He was a purchasing agent for 30 years for Saint Helena Hospital, Saint Helena. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945.
  He is survived by his nephew and caregiver, Robert W. Ross of Modesto. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Dorothy Ross, and two brothers.

  Marvin R. Walter, 89, died Oct. 31, 2002, in St. Helena. He was born to Ezra and Sadie (Ross) Walter on July 20, 1913, at the St. Helena (Sanitarium) Hospital. He graduated from Pacific Union College Prep in 1931 and from Pacific Union College with bachelor of arts and master of arts degree in 1939. He married Gwendolyn Fern Rathmann on Aug. 6, 1936. After a short time teaching in Northern California, the couple began their Adventist work among the Navajo Indian tribe in 1941 in Arizona and continued for many years working with other Indian tribes in various locations. He retired as pastor from the Idaho Conference. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Gwendolyn Walter of St. Helena; two sons, M. Daniel Walter of Singapore and Forest Walter of Ft. Pierre, S.D; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, June Bowen of Oakhurst; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary; and his brother, Ed Walter. A member of Signs Memorial Seventh-day Adventist Church, his memorial service will be held at the church Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2:30 p.m., 1920 Finnell Road, Yountville. Private inurnment will be in Monument Valley. Arrangements are being cared for by Morrison Funeral Chapel, St. Helena. on Saturday, 9 November 2002 Saint Helena, Napa County, California.
