  I observed that the memorial states he is a Civil War Veteran – at first I was going to rule him out as my relative because of that. However, if he was 73 yrs old when he died in 1937 it would be unlikely that he served in the Civil War as a toddler.
  
  There is however a 1930 census in Napa where Charles E Fales b about 1864 in Maryland, husband of Laura is listed in California
  
  I can’t explain a marker that would indicate Civil War service for that age man but it does appear he isn’t the one I’m looking for. It also appears he was b about 1864 in Maryland with a wife (Laura) he married about 1925 (according to the 1930 census). The 1930 census does indicate he is a veteran but I couldn’t tell what it referred to.
