    Death of Mrs. Nancy Kent on Friday about the noon hour, another of Oregon’s pioneers and noble women passed over the dark river to the great beyond, at the advanced age of 86 years, four months and ten days. Mrs. Nancy Kent was born in Missouri, but came to Oregon over fifty years ago. She buried her husband in the Umpqua Valley just 46 years to a day before she was laid to rest. She lived in Coos County only a few months, which time she has spent with her daughter, Mrs. W.W. Gage, being accompanied by another daughter, Miss Annie Kent.
    The funeral took place at the residence, conducted by Elder R.W. Airey. The internment took place at the Odd Fellow’s cemetery on Sunday at 11:00 am in the presence of a large concourse of friends

    FORT WORTH - Rupert Leigh Pownder, 93, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, May 27, 2001, in Fort Worth.

    Rupert Pownder was born Sept. 22, 1907, in Coquille, Ore., to Roy L. and Lee Anna Pownder. He graduated from Coquille High School and attended San Diego State College. Rupert retired from General Dynamics after 35 years of service as a cost accountant, and in retirement ran a successful tax business. Showing his commitment to the Fort Worth community, Rupert served for many years as an active board member and past president of the Mental Health Association of Tarrant County; past president of the Ridglea Civic League and founding member and past president of the Ridglea Swimming Pool Association. Rupert served as vice chairman of the Fort Worth City Welfare Board, past president and vice president of the Child Guidance Clinic Board and member of the Goodwill Industries Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Democratic Party and proudly participated in the Texas Tech Dad's Club. A longtime member of the Ridglea Presbyterian Church, Rupert will be remembered as a fine Christian, with a ready smile and concern for his fellow man.
    He is preceded in death by his only daughter, Patricia Pownder Conolly; and by a brother, LeNorm Pownder.
    Survivors: Wife of almost 62 years, Elizabeth Baker Pownder of Fort Worth; brother, Tom Pownder and wife, Margaret, of San Diego; grandchildren, Richard N. Conolly III and wife, Heather, of Bakersfield, Calif., Virginia Conolly of El Granada, Calif., Kimberly Bilodeau of Apple Vally, Calif., Rogers Conolly and wife, Willow, of Pensacola, Fla; great-grandchildren, Cory, Elizabeth, Micah and Malachi; numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
