Death of Mrs. Burd, Murray News
Mrs. Charles H. Burd, widow of the late D. H. Burd, died at her home in northwest Murray, Monday afternoon at 11 o'clock, after a lingering illness of several months, from cancerous condition. The diseased is widely and most favorable known throughout Clarke County, and her family has been one of prominence. Her late husband having been one of the most successful farmers of the county and duly elected county official, having served as treasurer, and from which office he was compelled to resign on account of ill health, which later caused his death.
Mrs. Burd was for several months, in failing health and during the last few weeks, her death was expected.
The announcement of the final passing away, therefore, was not a surprise to her friends, but only a sad realization and they now bow their heads, and with flowers and other manifestations of love and respect, pay a last tribute to her memory.
Mrs. Burd was a true friend, a good neighbor, and an honorable citizen and her death cast a shadow over her wide circle of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Bott. Burial was made in the Murray cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest by the side of those of her late husband.
To the bereaved children, the news joins all friends, in extending sympathy.
Cinderella Brown was born in Napolean, Henry County, Ohio, on January 20, 1850 and died August 30, 1909. With her people, she came to Iowa in 1870, living in Union County until about two years after her marriage to C. H. Burd, when they moved to Murray, where she lived until death claimed her. Mr. Burd died December 2, 1903 in Colorado Springs. Two sons, Samuel and Oscar also preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn, one daughter, Mrs. Jessie M. Gammill and two sons, Lewis of Portland, Oregon, Arthur and Walter of Englewood, Colorado. Also three sisters and one brother. on Thursday, 9 September 1909.
