The bodies of Mrs. George L. McKay and Miss Jeannette Adams, who were drowned in the Missoula river [Clark Fork] at Alberton Wednesday [16 Jul], were brought to Missoula yesterday. Their bodies were recovered by Fireman Van Housen of the Milwaukee. The women met their death in attempting to the Mrs. McKay's daughter, Edith, who was floating on the water with the aid of a pair of "water wings." The young woman got into trouble when she tried to touch bottom. Mrs. McKay and Miss Adams clasped hands and started to walk toward her. They were pulling Miss McKay toward shore when suddenly Mrs. McKay and Miss Adams disappeared. It is thought they stepped off a shelf into a deep hole. Their bodies were recovered in a whirlpool near the place where they disappeared. Mrs. McKay was 36 years of age. She was the daughter of A. A. Poirier, a pioneer of western Montana. She was survived by her husband, and engineer, and a daughter [Edith]. She is survived also by one brother, J. C. Poirier, Alberton, and three sisters, Mrs. W. C. Drost, Nine Mile; Mrs. P. B. Porter, St. Ignatius, and Mrs. G. B. Baker, Deer Lodge.
