  Margaret Laura Matthews was born July 11, 1910, to David and Rosa Hurst, in Myrtle Creek, Ore. Margaret married Harry Dewey Matthews, on Oct. 16, 1930, in Myrtle Creek. The family primarily made their home in Douglas County, Ore., until 1952, when they moved to Wilder, Idaho, and the next year made the move to College Place, Wash. The Walla Walla Valley was home until 1991, when they moved to Payette.
  The Matthews first became involved in the nursing home business in Roseburg, Ore., in 1950. Margaret earned her LPN associate degree and license after each of her children had graduated from college. She quickly gained the reputation of a gifted caregiver and resumed care of older folks upon moving to College Place in 1953. Margaret continued in giving senior care until she was 80 years of age. Margaret always had the reputation of being a tireless and trusted friend. She was best known for her extra-mile kindnesses and concern for anyone she might assist or support. She was adored by young and old alike. Margaret and Harry became members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1930 following their marriage. Their faith choice was the result of attending evangelistic meetings led by Dan and Melvin Venden while Harry was briefly employed by the Standard Oil Company of California in Boulder City, Nev.
  The Vendens provided their ministry for employees during the construction of Hoover Dam. Margaret and Harry continued to model the teachings and lifestyle of their faith family for the balance of their lives. The family moves to Idaho and College Place were to provide access to Christian education for their three children. Due to failing health, Margaret returned to College Place in December of 2004. She resided at Regency at The Park on Myra Road until her death on the evening of Jan. 19, 2010. Harry preceded her in 1993. Margaret is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Betsy Matthews, of Glendora, Calif., and Tom and Gloria Matthews, of Lindsay, Calif; her daughter and son-in-law, Alyce and Don Bais, of College Place, Wash; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other family. Margaret will be missed by a host of friends who cherish her memory.
  A funeral service was held at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt in Walla Walla, Wash. The memorial service will be 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Payette Seventh-day Adventist Church, Third Avenue South. Pastor Dan Matthews will officiate. Interment was private in Riverside Cemetery, Payette. Memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Outreach, Faith for Today or Blue Mountain Television through the funeral home. on Tuesday, 26 January 2010 Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington.
