  • CHILD*: She Lorna Borman, 91, of Pendleton, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Willowbrook Terrace Nursing Home in Pendleton. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 30, at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Borman was born November 15, 1915 at Morton, Minnesota to Clare and Lela Pomeroy Patton. At a young age she moved to Stevensville, MT and then to Lexington. She attended the Lexington and Rhea Creek Schools and Heppner High School through her sophomore year, leaving school to work on the home ranch. On May 5, 1934, she married Richard R. Borman at Heppner. They lived and worked on various ranches in Morrow County until 1948, when they moved into Heppner, and Lorna started work at the Heppner Cleaners. In 1955, she began work for the JC Penney Company. In 1970 the store in Heppner closed, so Lorna took a transfer to the Yakima, WA store, as her husband, Dick, was disabled. She retired from the Yakima store in 1981. After retirement, she was very interested in genealogy and traced many of her family lines and also of her husband's family. She liked to make contact with cousins and families that she discovered while doing the research. She enjoyed many interests such as sewing, embroidery, crochet, oil painting, and gardening, all sorts of crafts, bowling, and rock collecting. She was a member of the Heppner Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Daughters of American Colonists, Yakima Valley Genealogy Society, Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers, Mayflower Society, and was a member of the Broadway Christian Church in Yakima, WA and the First Church of God in Pendleton. In 2000, she moved to Pendleton to live with her daughter. Survivors include daughter, Lynda Dunlap of Pendleton; grandson, Dyrk Dunlap of Hermiston; granddaughter, Lori LaRue of Scappoose; great-grandsons, Jacoby and Cayben Marshall, and Zachary LaRue; brother, Calvin Cox of Box Elder, SD; sister, Rachel Nord of Ft. Collins, CO; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; a baby daughter; and brother, Howard Patton. Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Humane Society, PO Box 1876, Pendleton, OR 97801. Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of arrangements.

    Elda May Cone Gilliam went to be with the Lord Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Merry Haven Hospice Center in Snohomish, Wash., following a brief illness. She had been living with one of her daughters in Everett, Wash.
    She was born May 19, 1918, to Louis and Lena Cone of Princeton.
    Elda is survived by four daughters, Gene and the Rev. Marvin Newell of Lakeview, Ore., Leah Hagen of Clarkston, Kay and Park Peterson and Vickie Schmidt, all of Everett; two sons, Larry and Jackie Gilliam of Kalispell, Mont., and the Rev. Elvin and Sandra Gilliam of Pasco; 12 grandchildren, Vickie McConkie, Marilyn Newman, Brenda Newel, Eldon Stetson, Gaylon Stetson, Tami Bates, Chanda Simpson, Randy Gilliam, Jerry Gilliam, Robin Rowe, the Rev. Rodney Gilliam and Russell Gilliam; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.
    She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, the Rev. Harold Paul Gilliam; her parents, Louis and Lena Cone; her six brothers, Elvin Cone, Reese Cone, Gifford Cone, Loris Cone, Bennie Cone, Buddy Cone; and a great-grandson, Christopher Rowe.
    Elda accompanied her husband, Harold, as they pastored Nazarene churches in Idaho, (Viola being their first pastorate), Montana, North Dakota and Washington and Oregon. As a ministry team, they started nine churches in the Northwest.
    Elda was known for her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren and the Lord's work. There was always room for another plate at Mom's table.
    She was a great woman of prayer and faith, sharing her faith with all she met. Grandma Elda was deeply loved and admired by each of her 12 grandchildren. Each one of them held a special place in her heart.
    Viewing will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Short's Funeral Home in Moscow. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Princeton Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at Potlatch Cemetery.
    Memorials may be sent in her honor to the Princeton Church of the Nazarene or to the Elda Gilliam Funeral Fund through the Rev. Elvin Gilliam at 6116 Candlestick Dr., Pasco 99301 on Tuesday, 20 February 2001 Lewiston, Nez Perce County, Idaho.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the WISNER, Wiley Knighten-Age 83, of Central Point, Oregon passed away Saturday, May 17, 2003, due to complications from a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Mr. Wisner was born to Irvine Ray and Ella (Hansen) Wisner on March 20, 1920, in Grangeville, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II as a Staff Sergeant until his discharge in 1944. On April 21, 1945, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, he married Margaret Ann "Midge" Matthews, who preceded him in death in 1983. He lived in Roseburg and Klamath Falls before settling in Medford in 1960. He began his career with COPCO in December, 1945 and continued to work for PP&L until his retirement as a line foreman in March 1982, after being with the company for 37 years. He was an instrumental part of the power underground program. He was an inspector on the Jim Bridger Power Plant in Rawlins, Wyoming, in 1971 and Libby Dam Power Plant in Libby, Montana in 1972. He volunteered transporting cancer patients for treatment in the 1980's. He was a member of IBEW local #659, a lifetime member of Medford B.P.O.E #1168, a hunter, fisherman, avid bowler, devoted husband and family man. From 1997-2002 he attended Providence Adult Day Care Center where he was considered an amateur furniture restorer, a gardener, and quite the jokester. He is survived by a daughter, Debra K. Miles, of Central Point, Oregon; a niece he helped raise, Diane and Jack Robinson of Newport Richey, Florida; four brothers, Arthur, of Hermiston Oregon; Irvin, of Winston, Oregon; Rollie Sullivan, of Eugene, Oregon; and Jack of Winston; three grandchildren, Jeremy Knighten Miles of Medford; Tobin Arthur Miles of Churchill, Tennessee; Danielle Marie Miles of Central Point; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a niece he help raise, two sisters and four brothers, his parents and in-laws. Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinsons Foundation or The American Cancer Society, 31 West 6th Street, Medford, OR 97501. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel with Father Charles Christopher of St. Marks Episcopal Church officiating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. at Roseburg Memorial Gardens with Father Laurence Crumb of St. George's Episcopal Church.
