  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Mrs. Martha Broadbent, age 87, of Waterville died Tuesday at St. Joseph's hospital, Mankato. She had been ill for seven weeks and death was due to old age. She was born on April 10, 1880, in Waseca county to Frederick and Augusta Kanne. On Dec. 24, 1902, she was married to Tobias Broadbent at Waterville. He died on Oct. 6, 1954. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Emil (Gretchen) Miller and Mrs. Willard (Marcella) Stangler, both of Waterville; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Carl H Kanne of Santa Anna, CA. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday at the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Waterville. Rev. Ronald Larson will officiate and burial will be in Sakatah cemetery.   • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Prominent Star Lake Man Dies-George Kanne, a prominent resident of Star Lake township since 1919, died Sep. 25, at Lake Region Hospital where he had been a patient for 15 days. He had been in ill health for several years. He was born at Waterville, Minn., Feb. 28, 1895, and came to Star Lake after settling first at Great Falls, MT. He was married in Fergus Falls Oct. 21, 1930, to Selma Mayer. Surviving are his wife and one son, Arthur of Star Lake, one granddaughter, Barbara Jean, a brother Carl in California, and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Broadbent of Waterville and Mrs. Lydia Sandmeier of Frederickstown, MO, Mrs. Ed Alstadt of Fergus Falls is one of several nieces. A number of nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at Schoeneberger’s Chapel in Perham Sept. 29 at 2pm, with the Rev. John D Meyer officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Chapman, Martin Lofgren, Paul Lewis, Alvin Loop, Oscar Peterson and Fred Stoering.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Karl H Kanne died Feb. 1, 1983 at age 95, in Sun City, Arizona. He was born Feb. 15, 1887, in Waterville, MN. He is survived by his wife, Mattie Smestad Kanne of LeSueur, MN; one son, Miles F. Kanne of Bloomington, IN; and two daughters, Helen Kanne Arnott of Sun City, AZ, and Joan Morem of LeSueur. Also surviving are eight grandchildren. The deceased was in banking most of his adult working life; first in Mohall, then at the Windom State Bank and finally with the First Service Corporation, predecessor affiliate of the First Bank Systems, Inc. a bank holding company. He joined that organization in 1929. He and his wife moved to California for a number of years after retirement, living in the city of Garden Grove. He and a number of other senior citizens formed a Senior Citizens group in the city of Santa Ana, which is still a going concern after 25 years. The Kannes returned to Minnesota in 1969 to be near the family. He and his wife spent the last 10 years in LeSueur. There was a memorial service in Sun City, AZ on Feb. 4. He will be buried in Windom.   • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the OLD SETTLER SUMMONED--Mrs. Christ Sutter, a pioneer resident of this county, passed away at her home on Lake Ave., last Saturday noon. Caroline Kanne was born in Rehdorf province, Brandenburg, Germany, March 16, 1849. When eight years old she came to this country with her father and two brothers and one sister. They settled near Waterville. In 1870 she was married to Christ Sutter and they moved to a farm in Blooming Grove, which had been her home until four years ago, when she moved to this city. Deceased is survived by eight sons and six daughters, Charles, Albert, Ben, George of Blooming Grove; Ed of Waseca; Chris of Redvers, Canada; Wallace of Portland, Oregon; Rolland of Kansas City, MO; Mrs. John H Schuette of Tower, ND; Mrs. William Remund of Blooming Grove; Mrs. Burt Holbrook of Hartland; and Mrs. Ed Schultz and Miss Emma of Waseca. The funeral was held Tuesday from the house at 10 o'clock and from the German ME church in Blooming Grove at 1 o'clock, Rev. Baumgartner and Rev. Mahle officiating. In the death of Mrs. Sutter, this community loses one of those estimable pioneer women whose life was an inspiration to her family, firends and neighbors.   • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the MRS. IDA SCHUETTE--Mrs. Ida Schuette, former resident of Waseca, died in Minneapolis on Wednesday, November 26. Death was caused by paralysis after a few days of illness. She was 76 years old. Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Methodist Church in Blooming Grove with Rev. BA Perkins officiating on Saturday
    afternoon. Burial was made in the Blooming Grove cemetery. Pall bearers were: Warren Schultz, George Sutter, Marvin Sutter, Wilbert Remund, Donald Remund and Myles Sutter, all nephews. Mrs. Ida Schuette was born in Blooming Grove township on April 26, 1871, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C Sutter who have preceded her in death. She attended local schools and was married to John Schuette of Blooming Grove. Her husband preceded her in death and for the past six years she has made her home in Minneapolis with her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Cash.
    She is survived by Dr. Sylvester Schuette of Moscow, ID; Mrs. Ethel Cash of Minneapolis; Mrs. Luella Denzel, Santa Barbara, CA; Clifford Schuette of Waseca. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death. Charles Frederick "Charlie" Sutter

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Charles Sutter, 88, died Wednesday evening last week at the Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home, Waseca, and funeral services were held at the Pfaff funeral home Saturday afternoon. Rev. Burton Passer officiated and interment was in the Blooming Grove Cemetery. Mr. Sutter was born in Blooming Grove township June 2, 1872, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christ Sutter. He married Lillie Dehn March 18, 1899 and they farmed in Blooming Grove township until 1943 when they moved to Waseca. Mrs. Sutter passed away in 1945. Ill since July, Mr. Sutter entered Memorial hospital the first part of Dec. and upon his release entered the Lake Shore Inn. Surviving are seven children; Erwin, Boston, MA; Carl, Waukegan, IL; Roy, Stone Lake, WI; Elmer, George, John and Mrs. Norbert (Elma) Cowles of Waseca. A son Louis died in 1946. There are 24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; also two brothers, George Sutter, Waseca; and Rolland Sutter, Austin; and three sisters, Mrs. Bert Holbrook of Waseca, Miss Emma Sutter of Kenyon, and Mrs. Amelia Schultz of California.--Elysian Enterprise--20 Jan 1961--- Last rites were held for Charles Sutter, 88, Saturday at 2pm, at the Pfaff Funeral Home.   • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Edward Sutter died suddenly at his home near the north city limits about 7:30 Tuesday morning and he may be classed among the blizzard victims. He had been suffering from heart trouble for some time but went out to shovel off the walk near the home, collapsed and died while
    at work. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christ Sutter and was born in Blooming Grove township on Oct. 19, 1876, a member of a pioneer family of 14 children. After reaching manhood he learned the carpenter trade which he followed for the greater part of his life, working in this community, Minneapolis, the Pacific Coast and the Canadian Northwest. He was never married. He is survived by five brothers and four sisters, Ben, George and Charles Sutter of Blooming Grove; Roland Sutter of Austin and Christ of Redvers, Saskatchawan; Mrs. Amelia Schultz, Mrs. Ida Schuette, Miss Emma Sutter and Mrs. BO Holbrook, all of Waseca. Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 pm Friday at 2 at the Methodist church, with the pastor, Rev. WE Shields officiating.     Mr. Christian (CB) Sutter, 70, died at his home in Redvers, Sask., Canada, Friday evening, Jan. 21. Death was due to a rare blood disease. He had been ill since last fall. Mr. Sutter was born June 27, 1878 at Blooming Grove. He is a son of the late Christ and Caroline Sutter. He attended school and high school at Blooming Grove, after which he left for Canada. His wife is the former Millie Duke of Redvers, Canada. He is survived by his wife and six children; Ben, Christ, Mrs. Bright (Caroline), Vera, June and Morlie, all of Canada. Three children died when they were very young. He is also survived by three brothers, Charlie and George Sutter of Waseca, and Rolland of Spicer, and three sisters, Emma Sutter, Mrs. Bert Holbrook and Mrs. Ed Schultz, all of Waseca. Three sisters and five brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services are being held today, (Jan 23) at the Methodist church in Redvers at 2pm. He will also be buried there in Canada.   • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the The death of Caroline Sutter occurred at St.
    Luke's hospital in Faribault September 27. She had been ill
    over three years of Bright's disease. The past two winters
    were spent in California and Colorado in hopes of prolonging
    her life. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christian Sutter of
    Blooming Grove, with eight brothers and five sisters, survive
    her. Deceased was highly esteemed. For several years she
    was a teacher in our rural schools.--Waseca Herald--6 Oct
    1911--Miss Caroline Augusta Sutter daughter of Caroline and
    Christian Sutter, was born Dec. 30, 1886 and died Sept. 27,
    1911, at the St. Luke's Hospital at Faribault after a lingering
    illness of three and one half years of Bright's disease. Miss
    Caroline was employed as a very successful teacher in the
    public schools as long as her health would permit. She also taught the Normal Training class
    for Sunday school teachers where she rendered very able service. She was a devoted
    Christian and a very patient sufferer thru the long siege of illness, never complaining but
    always bright and cheerful to those who were around her. She is survived by her father and
    mother, eight brothers and five sisters. The funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 1st, Rev.
    Pfaff officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the Immanuel
    Church. after 27 September 1911.
