  YAKIMA - On November 7, 2004, Helen L. Barney was called home by her heavenly Father. She was born in Glide, Oregon on December 20, 1911 to Herbert and Bessie Connine. Helen was raised on a ranch in Glide and attended all of her schooling there.
  On October 24, 1937 she married John A. Barney from Hood River, OR. Upon their marriage the couple lived in Eugene, OR until her husband graduated from Northwest Christian College. Helen served faithfully as a Minister and Chaplain's wife for over 40 years. She loved people and was always actively involved in the communities in which she lived. She moved to Yakima in 1992 to be close to her son and family.
  She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1981, sister, Clarice Debernardi, and two brothers John and Roy Connine.
  While Helen loved to be with those around her, her greatest joy was found in her family which includes her son and his wife Michael and Carla Barney of Yakima, and her four grandchildren; Aaron and Alicia of Glide, OR and Lauryl and Katherine of Yakima.
  A private family graveside service will be held Friday, November 12, 2004 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Shaw and Sons has been asked to care for the arrangements.

She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels, Dublin Woman's Club, the Dublin Senior Center, and the Dublin Senior Foundation. Prior to moving to Dublin, CA in 1986, Betty and Bill lived in Cleveland, TN for ten years leaving their church home and many friends behind, so that they could be near their daughter's family in California. Betty's careers included working as a bank teller in many locations, a bookkeeper for small business, a pet sitter, and her favorite, proprietor of the Personal Card Shop in Cleveland, TN. She was also a fantastic wife, mother, and grandmother! Her hobby was playing bridge with friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bill and stepson David Marr. She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Mike) Starnes of Pleasanton, stepson Mike (Monica) Marr of Dayton, TN, stepdaughter-in-law Sonja of Charleston, TN, grandchildren Karen (Ryan) Richmond of Arroyo Grande, CA, Gregory Starnes of Dublin, CA, step grandsons Micah (Nadia) North of Dayton, OH and Brian Marr , and step great -grandchildren Sophie and Jackson North. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 15, 2014, at San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church, Alamo, CA.
