Pete Sproed then lived with Massey's for some time.
    Pete Sproed was taking his bride, Ann Pfau, to meet Massey's after eloping,
    when he was arrested in Klamath Falls at a service station. Ann never did meet Massey's as they didn't want to call and say they were in jail! With George Augustus Massey on 25 October 1918.

    Cottage Grove - A Salem man was ln critical condition al Sacred Heart General Hospital ln Eugene on Sunday after a one-car accident earlier ln the day about two miles south of here. Pete Sproed, 62, was northbound on Interstate 5 at Milepost 172 at about 11 a.m.l when the car he was driving suddenly accelerated and then went off the road, hitting the guardrail of Latham Bridge, police said. The car "was up on two wheels" for a time before coming down and hitting the guardrail again, said Oregon State Police office Dean Penzke. Police believe Sproed suffered a seizure or stroke that caused the crash. He was not otherwise injured, Sacred Heart personnel said. Sproed's wife, Anne, 61, also of Salem, suffered broken legs in the crash and was reported in fair condition at Cottage Grove Hospital before she was transferred to a Roseburg hospital Sunday afternoon.
