  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Helen Lucille LONG Yelton was born on July 19, 1924, at Rupert, Minidoka County, Idaho to Wilburn Long (1879-1935) and Mary Alvea RICE Long (1886-1987). Helen graduated from Rupert High School in 1942. She married Gerald Douglas 'Jerry' Yelton on September 26, 1942, at the First Christian Church parsonage at Rupert, Idaho. Her papa had served as elder in the church, and she was baptised there in 1936. She and Jerry had met at a church roller skating party. They had one child, Dorothy Jean during their marriage. Helen loved to work in her flower garden, cook, crochet and play Bingo. She was a very positive, upbeat lady who enjoyed making new friends. In 1984, she and Jerry hosted a family reunion for the descendents of Wilburn Long. She had worked as an accountant, bookkeeper and secretary for various companies in the Boise, Idaho area over the years. An avid reader she devouring up to five or six books a week. After she lost her eyesight due to macular degeneralgion she continued her love for books through Audio Books for the Blind. In August of 2015, she sold the lovely home she and Jerry had built, and was one of the first residents at The Terraces of Boise, a new retirement community. In 2017, her youngest sibling, Dr. Calvin Thomas "Tucker" Long moved to the same community. They really enjoyed their time together. Every September they would vacation for a week in the mountains near Stanley, Idaho. For most of her life Helen had enjoyed good health. It was only this past January that her heart began to fail. She died Thursday morning April 5, 2018, at St Lukes Hospital, Boise, Idaho, at the age of 93. Her daughter was at her side.
    Helen was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry, eight half-brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Jean, grandson Eric granddaughter Shannon, great-grandchildren: Mallorie, Christopher, Dain, Ivy & Mason, great-great-grandchildren: Amelia and Austin, her younger brother, Dr. Calvin T. Long of Boise, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service info still pending.
